| Life is too short to have your time, energy and money eaten away by clutter and disorganization. |
| If you have completely saturated your surroundings with things of the past, you are constantly feeding your spirit/soul/'mind/senses with the past. You literally can keep yourself stuck there because you are always with it, in it, seeing it, being reminded of the memories, the feelings, the sounds. You may also be constantly reminded of loss, failures or regrets attached to some of those memories. You are living in a culture of the past. When one is surrounded by a constant, steady stimulus, whether positive or negative, it feeds and pervades their being and becomes a very predominant force. This influences the way they respond, behave, feel, act and think. Another way to say it is found in scripture, where it states, "As a man thinketh, so is he." (Proverbs 23:7 KJV) Think about how different life could be, when one chooses to have a dedicated "wall of honor" or "corner of memories" which holds only the best, or a rotation of the things they enjoy remembering, viewing, and sharing with others. But the rest of the house is filled with "now" and "where I'm headed." Or the office which has one shelf of memories, while the remaining walls are filled with inspirational art and quotes, even signposts of steps achieved as you work toward a goal. This same principle applies to our home, home offices and corporate offices. We need to intentionally surround ourselves with stimuli which support us in who we are now, and inspire us toward the goals and vision we hold for our future. When our environment is filled with the past, we are more likely to stay steeped in it, and perhaps lured into its comfort and familiarity instead of being inspired toward fresh change and new opportunities. |
